There has been much debate surrounding the topic of fasting. Fasting has been used as a way to cleanse the body for centuries but is fasting for weight loss safe?

Some experts agree that fasting is beneficial for health, longevity and weight loss while others argue that fasting is harmful to the body.

Although there are many types of fasting one method that seems to get rave reviews is intermittent fasting.

The concept of intermittent fasting is to rotate between days of eating and not eating. This fast can be structured in a variety of ways. One of the more common structures is eating normal calorie amounts for 5 days and restricting calories for 2 days.

This technique is believed to be effective for the following reasons.

Fasting is an ideal replacement for typical dieting because you can enjoy the things you like while still reducing your calorie intake.

Cutting calories in this way will promote healthy weight loss.

No Need To Diet

Intermittent fasting is very different from a traditional diet plan because you can eat what you want the days you are not fasting.

Fasting works well because it does not require a major shift in the way you eat. Instead, you are allowed to eat the things you want except on the days you fast and typically drink water, teas and other low calorie drinks.

Fasting helps with weight loss because of the calorie restriction that occurs on the days you are not eating.

Healthier Lifestyle

Weight loss is not the only benefit of fasting.

Fasting has been shown to boost metabolism and increase energy.

For even better weight loss results start an exercise program in conjunction with your fast.

Working out 5 days a week using a combination of aerobics and strength training will improve your weight loss and tone your body.

Although not required, eating healthier foods on the days you are not fasting will only enhance your results.

You should also be drinking eight or more glasses of water daily to stay hydrated and keep your digestive system working at peak capacity.

Fasting for weight loss can be an effective strategy for losing weight. Before beginning any program for weight loss be sure to discuss it with your doctor.
