Getting Ready for Childbirth

By Smith Thompson
For a woman who is going to deliver her first baby, it is important to make some preparations for an easier, worry-free and safe labor. Normally, a pregnant female carries a child on her womb for nine months and that is enough for the couple to prepare for everything - finances, baby clothes, formula and insurance. However, there is something that woman has to do on her own and with her body to ensure that she and her baby will be safe and do well during the delivery process. Like any important event or business, child birth is also something that should be planned.

Birth Setting and Nutrition

The best choice for a birth setting is the hospital. Mothers would choose to be comfortable and safe during prenatal, labor and post-partum which are the times when they mostly needed care and assistance. There are some cases wherein some expectant are giving birth on different places because of early water breaks. To prevent unexpected circumstances from happening like this, it is advisable for pregnant women to confine themselves in the hospital a month earlier. No one knows the exact date or when the baby will come out so it's better to be sure that put both of your lives at risk.

Nutrition is another important thing in pregnancy. A healthy mother is more likely to have a safe and quick delivery unlike the one who had taken in an inadequate nutrition. The child in the womb will also have a complete growth and nutrition if the mother is healthy. To get enough nourishment, a mother can get it from the foods that she eats. Multivitamins can also be consumed to make sure that the diet is complete. Iron, vitamin C, folic acid and calcium are some of the main vitamins that a pregnant woman needs. Vegans or those who don't eat meat or any animal products may not have enough iron and vitamin B12. They can undergo a special diet to acquire the vitamins and minerals that they lack.

Getting the Body Ready for Labor

When it comes to preparing a woman's body for giving birth, the perineum, which is also known as the pelvic floor must be prepared. Doing so will make the muscles more flexible that helps in childbirth. It also decreases the chance of wall tearing and could provide a safe delivery especially for first time mothers. Perineum massage is one way to prepare the pelvic floor and this should be done for the rest of the pregnancy days.

Exercises can also contribute to tone and prepare the muscles aside from perineum massage. One of those is the Kegel exercises which are designed to help support the organs in the pelvic area. Like perineum massage, this should be done daily but throughout the pregnancy. Squatting, tailor sitting and pelvic tilt will also get your body ready for childbirth. All these guarantee great benefits without too much effort so consult your doctor, ready everything and make sure that you and your baby are safe on the day of your labor.
